<p>Das Door County liegt im Osten Wisconsins am <a href="Michigansee" title="Michigansee">Michigansee</a>. Es liegt im Nordosten der <a href="Door-Halbinsel" title="Door-Halbinsel">Door-Halbinsel</a>, die die <a href="Green_Bay_(Michigansee)" title="Green Bay (Michigansee)">Green Bay</a> vom eigentlichen Michigansee trennt. Daneben gehören noch einige Inseln im Michigansee und Green Bay zum County, deren größte <a href="Washington_Island_(Michigansee)" title="Washington Island (Michigansee)">Washington Island</a> ist.

</p><p>Das County hat eine Fläche von 6138 Quadratkilometern, wovon 4888 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind.

<p>Das Door County wurde 1851 aus Teilen des Brown County gebildet. Der Name leitet sich von der gefährlichen Meerenge zwischen der <a href="Door-Halbinsel" title="Door-Halbinsel">Door-Halbinsel</a> und <a href="Washington_Island_(Michigansee)" title="Washington Island (Michigansee)">Washington Island</a> ab, die von Schiffswracks gesäumt ist. Die Franzosen haben diese Stelle <i>Porte des Morts</i> genannt, später dann <i>door of the dead</i>, woraus sich dann Door County entwickelte.

<p>Nach der <a href="United_States_Census_2010" title="United States Census 2010">Volkszählung im Jahr 2010</a> lebten im Door County 27.785 Menschen in 13.695 Haushalten. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 22,2 Einwohner pro Quadratkilometer. In den 13.695 Haushalten lebten statistisch je 2,01 Personen.

</p><p>Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 97,2 Prozent Weißen, 0,6 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,7 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 0,5 Prozent Asiaten sowie aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 1,0 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. Unabhängig von der ethnischen Zugehörigkeit waren 2,7 Prozent der Bevölkerung spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung.

</p><p>17,6 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 57,9 Prozent waren zwischen 18 und 64 und 24,5 Prozent waren 65 Jahre oder älter. 50,7 Prozent der Bevölkerung war weiblich.

Das jährliche Durchschnittseinkommen eines Haushalts lag bei 48.707 <a href="US-Dollar" title="US-Dollar">USD</a>. Das <a href="Pro-Kopf-Einkommen" title="Pro-Kopf-Einkommen">Pro-Kopf-Einkommen</a> betrug 30.509 USD. 11,4 Prozent der Einwohner lebten unterhalb der Armutsgrenze.<sup id="cite_ref-9" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-9"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>9<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup></p><div style="clear:left"></div>
